I have bought this jacket twice now. my child wears a Large normally, the bottom of the jacket (waistline buttons) is a medium. We exchanged it for an XL. The bottom is still medium, the top of the jacket from only gets larger. I know this, because we had our medium sized child try them both on. Also, there are no functional pockets, the ones pictured are just for decoration.
