This is a very helpful, well-written and practical aid for teens – AND adults. The book is not a heavy, theoretical text. Yes, Simone Finnis tells us the psychological thinking behind each component of her approach. But more importantly, she has created a step-by-step, self-help system showing how teens can use meditation to cope with the pressures they face. Body-image issues? Anxious about relationships? Overly self-critical? Feeling ordinary? Afraid to speak your mind? Simone lays out an easy-to-accomplish meditation session for each of these issues – and many more – that can weigh heavily on kids. In a nutshell, she tells teens to focus on the present, love who you are, forgive your flaws and look past the comments of others. Then, at each lesson, she suggests meditation statements that can instill a positive message in the mind. Finally, readers write “journal” entries that reinforce everything. Adults: Her system can work for you, too, given that some of us struggle with these same issues in our daily lives. This book is a must for your shelf.
